I am a proud co-founder of women’s group in my company. We try to organize many events to help women develop themselves and move on with their dream career. One of such events took place last Saturday and was run by one of our female managers. The workshop was called Dream Map and I’d like to share with you the experience.
The idea is that if you visualize your dreams and put them in physical form they are more likely to come true. Magic? Hell no, say I and my MA degree in psychology. The studies proved already that the likelihood of achieving one’s goals increases sharply once those goals are written down. Dreams are just a more abstract form of goals and using pictures instead of words just another way of getting things done.
Making your Dream Map is easy and fun. Apparently there is a number of ways of making them but here is what we did on Saturday and what I finished in my own living room:

Gather old magazines and newspapers.

Acquaintance yourself with the Bagua. Given place on your Dream Map is going to represent the corresponding square of the Bagua. One word of clarification here. From what I was told the square in the very middle represents the idea of perfect you.

Now chose and cut out of the papers symbols of each Bagua square. It can be as abstract or as concrete as you wish.

And stick them in the appropriate parts of your map. Voila!
In my map I used a lot of symbols that are readable to me only. It somehow makes it more of a secret. Now, I heard that some people put the map away and come across it a few years later only to discover that most of the dreams came true. Others prefer to look at it every day. I intend to do the latter, therefore I chose the paper that corresponds with the color of my bedroom walls.
Now, I understand that this kind of activity is not for everyone. However, if you like setting and putting down your goals this might just be worth a try.
Do let me know if you have any questions. I am no expert but I know whom to ask.
Have a good Tuesday everyone!
